Its not a matter of convincing me, more of giving me money to afford such things.

If I was a rich son of a gun, I would. Still, a regular old Xbox is getting cheap anymore (it might even hit $99 by Christmas). And Halo 2 is really reduced in price too.

Stick in the mud!!! :-P lol

j/k

Still, I'm surprised more people in RID don't play things other than computer games. (and if they do, they've never said so)

Well, Live for a year is only $50. It sounds expensive, but for what ya get, it's worth it. Plus, if you'd rather pay monthly, Live is like $8 a month. Now, I'll be honest, you really have to be into online gaming with a console to get Live on the original Xbox. Live for the 360 is 100 times better than the original Xbox though. The Xbox Live Marketplace is what will make the 360 so popular for years to come.

Personally, I think Xbox Live will be what makes the 360 so much better than the PS3. Sure, the PS3 has Blu-Ray and 1080p, but that's it (and it will be too costly to boot). Xbox Live will be the real money maker in this round of the console wars. Sure, all of the new consoles are going to have pretty graphics and some really great games, but there isn't much else that makes them truly next-gen.

Does the PS3 have Blu-Ray make it next-gen? We'll only find out when that format war is over. Personally, I think Microsoft was smart by leaving HD-DVD drives out of the 360. Had they put those drives in (instead of the standard DVD players currently in there) and HD-DVD lost the format war, I think that would have really hurt the 360. Now, Microsoft can make an external HD-DVD drive or an external Blu-Ray drive depending on which format wins.

Does having support for 1080p make it next-gen? Yes, but there are hardly any 1080p TV's on the market. Hell, 1080i is barely reaching many people. Now, once the new HD standards go into effect at the end of the decade, this will be a different story. But, by then there will be a new round of console wars to worry about.

It seems that Sony's biggest selling points for the PS3 are really not big selling points. Sony's gamble on putting Blu-Ray drives int he PS3 is simply big picture thinking in order to win the format war. In the meantime, rumor has it that they have had to cut features from their Cell processor in order to cut costs for the Blu-Ray drives.

What is shocking is the PS3's lack of a centralized online gaming center (like Xbox Live). Online gaming is the way of the future. Bill Gates is right on when he says that the HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray is the last physical media war. 10 years from now, you won't be buying DVD's at your local Best Buy, you'll be downloading your movies over high-speed internet connections. Xbox Live already gives you a taste of this. You can download demos, movie trailers, arcade games, themes, and more. The PS3 will probably outsell the 360, but I think the 360 is on track to becoming the gateway for future gaming.

OK, enough of my ranting about why Live is the way of the future.

I do play other games, but not often. PS2 games at times.

I hope you'll understand if I have a strong distaste for the PS2 and its games...

Like I said, I bet you'll see the original Xbox sell for $99 by next Christmas, if not before then. Microsoft will do everything in the world to counter the PS3 launch, so a price drop on the original Xbox may end up being a part of that strategy.
