Dont you worry Kurke, I'm way ahead of you. I've been encourage more people to post here, and it is working. I mean afterall Gesro is here now. I do agree forum posts are lacking, instead, I get mail, after mail, after mail in-game.
People sell there items by sending guild mails, it should be done in the trade forums. Event information should be posted in the event forums. The reason the event forum is underused is because no one reads here and we end up having to send guild mails

What you need to do is tell everyone that you will only accept certain types of guild mail. All other types will be ignored/not responded to. Also, you need to enforce whatever rules you have about guild mail. Advertising is cool if it is done in a neat way. Otherwise, it is just spam.
Also, maybe get someone to write up a guild newspaper and post it here. I remember someone did that (dunno if it was in DM or RID) and everyone loved it.
As far as your event forums go, I can remedy that too. Remember Jeopardy??? OK, most of you young RIDers won't, but I know Lexx does. I can easily say that the Jeopardy player event was probably the most successful non-combat event ever held in Fort Oasis and by RID. For those of you scratching your head, I actually had a SWG Jeopardy game a year ago. It was complete with the famous Jeopardy board (which I made mostly myself) and podiums for the contestants to stand at. We had it in the guild hall and probably had something like 20 to 30 people show up. And there was no combat at all during the event. I think a couple groups formed afterwards to go hunting, but that was it. The winner got whatever credits they won. Overall it was pretty successful (there were a few things I'd fix if I ever did it again). But, I did all my planning for it here on the forums. I tossed out ideas and everybody helped out by giving me their thoughts and offering their help. The events forum got some use for a while there.
You can also schedule weekly player events for the guild. You schedule them and plan them in the events forum. I'm sure that would draw a few more people into the mix.

Yeah, I've threatened RID a while back that'd I'd revoke mail rights for non-captains, commanders if the spam increased. Fortunately, it's not as severe, but they still dont come here as often

Is a cool idea, this is somthing I'd consider doing personally.

Jeopardy brings back memories. I still have the pieces to set up in the theater, although I never really got around to it yet. Is somthing I'd definitely consider as a future event.
Weekly events have been more common. They aren't anything official, but every now and there there is a PvP event, base strike, or some party event to attend. And whats even better is now non-RID's come and visit. I'd used to post about events on the Starsider forums in the event non-RID's (or potential new recruits) wished to attend. Unfortunately, at the time no one really took my event posts seriously. The good thing is now I have closer contacts with other guild leaders and their members, and they now come to the events more often.

lol, you're Jeopardy board needed a little work.
Seriously though, you should really start enforcing guild mail rules. Force them to come here and they will... or they'll leave RID. But if they get in that big of a hissy fit over guild mail, they probably don't belong in RID anyways.
I know guild mail was something that always got annoying. I wouldn't log on for a few days and when I cam back, I had to spend half an hour just clearing out mail... It really sucked. Reading here can mostly be done at one's leisure as you don't have the little mail icon blinking constantly until you read your mail. lol

Jeapordy was a blast! and im not just saying that cuz i won.
personally i dont think guild mail is appropriate for commerce, there is place for that here on the forums but it is not often used. this is probaly because not many members ever read the forums. i would seriously think about only giving guild mail rights to the leaders, it wasnt extremely bad, spam-wise, but there were often a ton of emails in my inbox that really didnt need to be there. tough call to make tho as you want to keep the lines of communiation as open and free to all members as possible. talk to other guild leaders and see what thier mail policies are and how it works for them.
P.S. the RID forums are still my home page.

lol
The only time that commerce mail is cool is when someone does it in a RPG type way. When it's just a "I make Houses!!!" mail, it's kind of pointless. If you really want to make the chain of command worth something, give mail priviledges only to those with high enough ranks. Let's be honest, the older members of RID are the ones who usually post here. It is the newer members that never see this place. If they can't mail the guild, they can come here.

At least we can relate to the fact of being flooded by mails when your just on a *one* day leave. I can't imagine what I'll be up against when I return from a 10 day trip. I actually dread logging on primarily because of the mail. I know I'll have to read mails about drama, commerce, and pointless strings of 1-5 word mails.
Seriously, whenever guild mail *is* used for event information, it's normally like the following:
Topic: hunt
rid, meet at nyms if u want to hunt
Really specific, huh?
You'd at least expect the writer to give specifics on what your hunting, and when your leaving, etc. Thats just one example

Why can't all the RID noobs be like Gesro????
Seriosuly Lexx, you need to explain guild mail and slap some restrictions on it. Make people come here. If you really want, I can come up with some thought provoking topics for everyone to discuss. (as if the GTA thread isn't enough to get people to post).
