Hey Guys,

I'm just asking, would you guys support me being the Chairman of the Executive Council (#2 to Lexx)? I wouldn't take it unless I had EVERYONEs approval.

Alright! Governance issues! This is my specialty!

Before I say Yay or Nay, I'll let you first state your apology as to why such a position is needed. During peak hours, RID has on maybe 10-15 members, most of whom are doing their own thing. What would you do in such a position? While Lexx isn't on until the wee hours of the night, does RID need someone to act in his stead during the off-peak offers?

With the dissolvement of divisions, each Councilman is free to basically lead groups/expertise as he sees fit. You're strength is Heroics and BB, mine are RP and Events. So, what role would the Chairman have with the other Councilmen? Would he be a manager (generally hands-off, only gets involved with disputes), a supervisor (acts as Lexx's Regal Seat Warmer, with potential to be a bully), or a snitch (no supervision over other Councilmen, only reports to Lexx)?

I can say though, as of right now, I'm leaning towards a "No," simply because it really isn't needed. But, if you can convince me, I may swing your way.

Don't be like that! Debate and dialogue are healthy and good practices amongst leadership.

It's not an idea which has to be written off so quickly. It's an idea which warrants further discussion, especially when we get a fourth councilman involved. It's also something that can be voted on.

Indeed, we must think of the pros and cons to such a position:

Pros:

-Stating you're the second in command of a guild carries more weight to newer members and allied guilds, than saying your a part of the Executive Council. They may feel its a position they can communicate with effectively.

-A position like this could carry more responsibilities, such as the ability to remove members. This would prove useful if there's some major conflict while I'm away.

Cons:

-Some ambiguity as to differences between a Chief Executive and a normal Executive

-Some perhaps, hard feelings and ignorant line of thinking among members. For example, when I allowed Barney to gain higher positions in the guild, there were members who wrongly assumed she wanted to take my place (as if that would be possible lol).

Solutions?:

Well, some solutions I can propose... First of all, offering more responsibilities and powers. As I mentioned earlier, the ability to remove members. Maybe wage war and peace. Not to say these would be used frequently, but it would show that the position has more sway over the guild than others. We could also more heavily advertise the position to new members, so that people aren't limited to asking, "where is Lexx, when will he be on so that we can do stuff."

Perhaps make it an elected position. Every 2 or 3 months, we hold an election. All members can use a ballot box, or send me a mail with their vote. This way we can let the guild decide who they feel may be best for the position (they would just vote for 1 of the 4 executives). This could end stagnation by forcing Executives to constantly work for the guild, gaining their favor. But that's just brainstorming right now. It's something I can speak with you and others about in-game.

I like this!

Also, before we even decide on whether or not we want this position, we'll still need to outline specifically what he'll be doing.

I changed my mind, I'm not interested anymore. I do however want the title of Vice-President of Intergalactic Research & Development :P (inside joke with Lexx)

I am going to re-open this discussion. Honestly Arev, I dismissed it because I did not want to get into a political debate with you. You are a very educated man which I respect, however I found your response insulting. I am not going to state an apology as to why such a position is needed, especially after I already talked to Lexx about it before-hand. Your inclination of such a person being a Snitch is also insulting to whomever would hold that position. This is not real-world politics, it is a game and that position should be treated as a person that can help or does help beyond the means of a normal member or even Council Member. Why me? I play more than all of the council and Lexx combined (not really flattering come to think of it). I also donate more time, credits, goods, and advice to more RID members than anyone else. I do not take upon roles because I "want to", I take them on because I feel a need is there, I will assume responsibility to take charge. Believe me, if I could give up running base busts I would, I really really really really hate running them. Ask Arramen how many tells Bovive gets during a base bust. I am also the only current Council Member to make any alliances (other than Lexx who well, u just don't count because u are top dog lol). I promote RID on the forums whether I agree or not with the agenda, and forward citizens to the appropriate Mayor even when it would benefit me more to forward them to the city I hold residence in. I invite RID members to participate in heroics because I want them to enjoy the game and the guild. Believe me, I have over 80 heroic friends on my friends list in which I would fill the spot before RID members if it came down to heroic experience. I like RID, I want to stay in RID, I like the people that we recruit. If I wanted to go to a heroic experienced guild I would had left for SUNDR a long time ago. So what would the Chairman do? My ideas:

1) have removal powers (Personally, I believe all council members should have this. If we cannot trust our council members with this, then they shouldn't be on the council).
2) It means a lot more when communicating to another guild that you hold a high rank, and I do a lot of PR with other Imp guilds.
3) The Chairman should run the Council Meetings (not the guild meetings, that should be Lexx).
4) Take Lexx's place while he is gone (for example soon when his family comes down).
5) First dibs on loot drops, nah just kidding.

I believe this should be a Lexx appointed position and not one voted on, however I am open to both. My reasoning is that most members never see what we do behind the scenes. When they see we are hosting a BB or allied with another guild, they have no idea the amount of work we put behind it. I also treat (most) everyone equally. Honestly I do not treat a couple equally, but that only comes to heroics where they have not meet the requirements I set forth or are on my own personal watch list. Actually I can only think of Decra, he really gets on my nerves. I mean, he logs on and beggs for shit every day, and then gets in a heroic and just embarrasses me to death. Ok, sorry to sidetrack on you there. I am moving this motion past an official discussion and straight to Lexx. Lexx, I encourage you to speak with all Council Members independently in order to get an unbiased and unshared position on my motion. Also I changed the "What would Jesus do?" bumper sticker on my AV-21 to "What would Lexx do?"

Bovive, let me first apologize for my use of 'apology'. Apology is this case is not an admission of error or discourtesy accompanied by an expression of regret but rather a formal justification : defense, such as the Apology of the Augsburg Confession. The Germans weren't actually admitting their errors to the Papal delegate, but rather were defending their beliefs in their Confession. Also, the term "snitch" is clarified by the definition that follows it, someone who has no supervision over other Councilmen, but only reports to Lexx.

While I whole-heartedly agree that you're the most qualified, at this present time, I do not believe such a position is needed. But, but, but, I am warming up to the idea a little bit.
