How to raise guild morale?

Post by Lexx Yovel » Sat Apr 05, 2008 6:59 pm

With the way things are going, I dont want RID's to think there is a mass exodus just because Fractus', Freila's, and Ghenghis' alts left RID. It can be easy to see how someone would come to the conclusion that our guild is "falling apart" when all these members appear to be leaving.

Amaroo and I were talking about ways to raise guild morale. We were discussing perhaps having something like a social event, like a part in Fort Oasis for instance.

I'd like to hear suggestions for ideas, and maybe we can get something going next Firday.

Confidence in our army in both pvp and the instances certainly raises morale. We do need something for the lower levels though. The occasional party is great for everyone, but its really a one time fix.

I think if you hold regular get-togethers that aren't combat events, that does alot to raise morale. You mentioned having parties. What if we hold some sort of grab-bag event where each person buys one pack off of the bazaar for 1 credit and each pack is filled with some sort of item (inexpensive, expensive, useful, decoration, etc.). Then you could hold some sort of swoop race to win a credit prize or hold a treasure hunt. If anything, at the end of the day it's a nice way for EVERYONE in the guild to get together and hang out and just socialize. And with multiple cities under our control, we can have a party in each city with different events.

Is a party a one time fix? In a sense, yes. However, at least one party may be all we need.

Keep them busy. Idle hands... devil and all that.

Last 3-4 days has been a noticeable lull in grouping. I've been exhausted with the volume of tells and complaints, which distracts me from trying to run groups, and I've noticed, when I sit and be quiet, that any time any other member asks for groups in guild chat that no one will respond even if we have 10 people online.

I think a very large part of it is the new chapter, people are off solo-ing collections.

If you wanna go the party route (which couldn't hurt) I'd be glad to host one at my estate. I can set up some storyteller props and what not. We could even make it kinda fun and say that each guildie is allowed to bring a "date" from outside the guild if they want.

/agree

I'd love to host an event in Nar Shadda. IT would be a great way to introduce people to the city again and would entice me to finish decorating everything that I wanted to. Storyteller props would make for a lot of fun! The bing-a-date idea also sounds kind of cool. Perhaps some gound rules with that idea though.

Well, on this note... have you ever considered making a 4th division just for entertainers and maybe RPers called the "Morale" Division?

I would vote for Tofu to be second in command of that division, he's so sweet, he's ALWAYS trying to make jokes and do things in the guild to cheer people up.

They could be given the job of hosting parties or soft-rp events on a very casual but regular basis. Things that could include outsiders, like "talent shows" or beauty contests, speeder races, etc etc.

I think this is a good idea, maybe not an official division, but a committee led by one of the officers would be good. This will remove some stress from lexx and allow guild members who want a greater role in RID to have one.

The Human Resources Committee :-P

We tried an entertainment division a long time ago, but it didn't really work too well. I think something like this would function somewhat differently and if managed by the right people, would do a lot.

Whoever heads up this division/committee (I'm not big on the idea of another division, but a committe or some sort of "group" would work well) should be osmeone who is active and willing to plan out social events for the guild.

As said earlier, the idea of a non-formal (i.e. no ranks) committee would be a good idea in my opinion. Just the weekly or bi-weekly simple event like a grab bag, race, lottery, fighting tournament, etc would be really helpful in pulling the guild together I think.

The "Happy-Happy" Committee sounds like a great plan!
