How ironic that a term always orignally meant to mean merry has become derogitory slang. I find that so odd that we managed to do that to our language.

I found this article over on MSNBC.com. The article details a poll that was conducted which found that 4 in 10 American adults play games on the PC or a console. At first it was quite an interesting read. Well, it is all pretty interesting, but I started taking everything with a grain of salt after I read the following paragraph:

Only 11 percent spent more than $500 last year. Online gamers are more likely to have spent more than $500 last year compared with gamers who don't play online. Six in 10 hardcore gamers — those who play three or more hours per week — spent $200 or less on games last year.

Three or more hours of playing time makes someone a hardcore gamer?!?!?! Wow, what world did these people come from? I spent that much time playing PGR3 yesterday simply because I was bored on a Sunday afternoon. Yet I am somehow a hardcore gamer? Wow... Hell, that was the first time I had turned on my 360 in a week. You want to talk hardcore, see my friend who plays probably 4 or 5 hours a day!!!

Calling someone who plays video games for 3 hours hardcore is like calling someone who took a high school science class an expert on astrophysics...

Yet again, gamers are misrepresented in the eyes of the general public...

3 or more hours lol.. for some games it takes like 30 minutes just to get through the opening sequence! (well maybe not that extreme but it's a long time nonetheless)

Like Kingdom hearts 2. That game took hours to get out of the tutorial phase.

Hey I do that soem times usually when I'm bored I just keep repeatedly hitting refresh and wait until people post.
