Ditto. But I think a lot of people are confused and don't realize that the Star Wars universe revolves around the mucho millennia old battle between the Jedi and the Sith. It was called Star Wars because of that ancient, never-ending battle... not because the Empire and Rebels were fighting. Palpatine's Empire was just a pimple in the long history of the actual Star Wars.
So IMO, without Jedi, a Star Wars is not Star Wars. Thats why I feel that their mistake was not allowing Jedi, it was basing the game on the movie timeline, because it was a time where Jedi were damn near extinct, and the Sith were rebuilding their domination, but still not more than a handful. Plus that timeline covers just a couple of years and already has a pre-established outcome, so why play as Imperial since we lose anyway?
Star Trek won't have to be bothered with that problem, and neither will Stargate. Lord of the Rings... not sure, I haven't kept up on the game's developments but I believe that they are not including movie brand elements, so they might slide by without serious issues. /shrug

I am only against Jedi strictly because of the timeline issue. I mean, there are only supposed to be four total Jedi at this time!!! You have Darth, the Emp, Luke, and Yoda. That's it!!!! Sure, there might be the occasional force sensitive being out there, but there are only four Jedi!!!
What about that is hard to understand??? If you're a Dev, apparently too damn hard...

Did anything ever say there wern't more underground Jedi?
I have to agree with Szul on this one. Though I do not agree with the widespread amount of jedi there are out there now, Jedi are what make up a lot of Star Wars. I don't think it quite feels like the star wars world without the jedi around. This is why I liked the system before. I felt it totally fesable that there were small underground people still pracitcing Jedi... but they had to be careful and hide their skills as to not be seen by anyone, less they be hunted.

Rather than get into a discussion of Officiality, be it movie or EU, I will link to a Timeline... well here: http://www.starwarsfanworks.com/timeline/
Download this: http://www.starwarsfanworks.com/timeline/swtg39.zip and read the SWTG39X.pdf. It has very interesting information on the issue of Officiality, and I think you might be surprised to discover that YOU care about it more than LUCAS does.

There *were* other jedi besides Obi-Wan and Yoda at this time line, they just didn't duel people with lightsabers in front of the Theed starport.
I have nothing against the ammount of jedi there are, as long as they were forced into hiding for a good ammount of time. Like maybe if one is seen with a tunic on or equipped with a lightsaber, Stormtroopers come down to kill the jedi. Maybe if a jedi were to stay in a major city for a certain ammount of time, the NPC's get suspcious, and finnally your cover is blown (like have it so you can only stay 30 minutes in a major city before being reported).
Where is the benefit for the jedi in this? The adrenaline of being on the run, being hunted. You'd need to be clever not to be reported by NPC's or players.
At least this way, jedi stick to the wilderness, or dress like average civilians.
