a) None of the US's goals were achieved. War is generally won when one side achieves its goes.
b) US was occupied by British forces when the war ended, not the other way around.
c) The reason that the US didn't lose any territory during the treaty negotiations was the fact that Britain really didn't want any of the land, nor were they prepared to fight for it,
d) the goal of the British was to defend their land, and they did

the fact that a hectare of US soil wasn't taken doesn't mean the US didn't lose the war, though to be sure, it was a much MUCH more civil and mutually beneficial of a peace treaty than is usual.

well if you are going to knitpick at my choice of words. I was just trying to point out that it was beneficially to both sides as no one lost anything (save the lives that were already taken)

Obviously war is never good, but as far as war goes, it was fairly mild. They came to a fairly quick peace treaty and settled all of it without any country losing/gaining land or continueing the fighting, which would make it beneficial for bothsides, in that way.

we kicked some ass new orleans though if you really want to get into it. 2000 british dead and only 13 american casualties. We didn't even have guns, we just threw whiskey and rocks.

That compared against the three american forts that surrendered without fighting, the american militia that refused to cross the border, and so forth :P

but at least they weren't dead. America is all about every man for himself. Which is fine by me, I'm not patriotic at all. Example: I refuse to say the pledge of Allegiance when everyone else does during school.
